Simple Isn’t Easy

There is beauty in simplicity.

An elegant process or low barrier to entry is always appreciated. Even when that appreciation is represented by silence in place of complaints.

Creating simplicity often comes at great expense. Usually a simple process is created after feeling the pain of complexity. Sometimes a simple thing comes at the cost of relentless discipline.

A great example of this is diet and exercise. I promise if you do those things on a regimen you’ll reap the rewards of great health. But how many people actually have the discipline to stick with a program for 12 weeks? At face value, diet and exercise are simple, but they sure as hell aren’t easy.

Building a process that is simple is extremely difficult. Understanding the pitfalls and hang ups of a common process requires great insight into core issues that usually vary from user to user. Look at the monumental effort it takes to buy health insurance. A task that most people in America do. You would think the process would require little effort at this point, but there are so many flavors and variations when it comes to health insurance that it feels like a simple solution is a long way off.

The next time you find yourself appreciating a simple process or experience, try to keep in mind the effort it took to get there.
